Let's face it: many times, kids can be LOUD and ANNOYING!
And even though it's so important to be kind and patient, it can be TRICKY. I'm also a Teen with ADHD and processing difficulties, and I have two little siblings, so I've had to figure out some strategies to deal with them lovingly without driving myself insane, and I hope they help you.
So Here’s… How to Deal with Overstimulating Children!
Listen to Music. The music's beats always helped distract me and take my mind off everything happening around me. I love Autism sensory music when I'm overwhelmed.
Remove yourself. While it's not always possible, removing yourself sometimes helps you ground yourself for a few minutes and then return.
Ask them to be calmer. Now, this isn't something all little kids have the skills to do, but they care about you, and if they notice you're in distress, most likely, they will do their best to help.
Have a textured fidget. Much like music, this helps alleviate and take my mind off of some of the stress.
Bring earplugs with you at all times. You can buy these at the pharmacy, and they have honestly helped so much when nothing else seems to help.
But remember to keep calm as much as possible!
Because even though your feelings are valid, they look up to you so much, and snapping at them can cause lasting scars.
and how can you keep calm without snapping at them, but still maintain some sort of authority? isn't it a compromise?
